I am coming out. I don’t like Shakespeare all that much. Sure the plays have got good plots and characters. So does The Sopranos. It’s just hard to understand. No doubt the dialogue was positively gripping four hundred years ago.
Shakespeare’s little known ‘There’s Something About Mary’ (on which the film was very loosely based):
Ye pox put a blight ‘pon her face and her hair
Alas, from which she did not recover
Her sibling hence did the Duke discover
The modern translation:
Then she got the pox and died
The duke married her sister
Better be off before the Shakespeare devotees rip me to shreds. Antarctica is nice this time of year.
